The
Purpose of Life and The Universe
I
would like to share with you some of my insights regarding
the purpose of the material Universe and the purpose of
life itself. I hope that it makes some sense to you and
helps you to look at all ‘things' material
from a slightly more ‘detached' and also from a more ‘wholistic'
point of view. It is the job of a ‘healer' to help other
people to become more ‘whole'. To be healthy means to be ‘whole'
in body, mind and soul. The ‘wholer' we are, the holier we
also become….when we are truly ‘whole' within our own trinity
of body, mind and soul, we can be in harmony with the whole
Universe, can become One with the One which was before matter.
It is best if the ‘healer' is a ‘whole' person herself or
himself.
Before Creation
All matter is but vibrating energy some scientists claim
and people like Albert Einstein expressed that belief in
a mathematical formula: E=mc 2
What
does that mean? Very simply it means that there was energy ‘before' matter and that all matter consists of that ‘pre
physical' energy.
Since
in that ‘energy' there ‘existed' neither electrons
nor protons, neither atoms nor molecules and hence neither ‘matter'
and especially no ‘observers' of that matter there was neither
space nor time either.
There
was ‘nothing' (No-Thing) which the human mind could
recognise as ‘something'…or ‘Some-Thing'.
To
the human mind the energy of which all matter consists
is nothing. Nothing the mind can ‘grasp' through the ‘senses'
of the body.
But
everything that exists in physical reality, every proton,
electron and atom in the physical Universe consists exactly
of that ‘nothing' - consists of ‘vibrating'
energy.
Can
you SEE? When I say: ‘can you see', I do not mean ‘can
you understand me', but rather: 'can you follow me into that ‘pre
physical energy and information' and can you SEE what I can
see with my ‘inner eyes'. Perhaps with my heart rather than
my mind if we consider the heart as being the ‘seat of God'.
I
had to stop myself from saying; ‘pre physical light and
information field' since a field can exist only if we have
matter….and especially an observer of that ‘matter'
So
here is the difficulty: trying to understand something
with a ‘material mind' which is ‘nothing' in
a material sense.
I
hope I am not confusing you, but just sit back and contemplate
that timeless and spaceless energy which was ‘before' matter,
out of which all matter is made and which will still be there
when all matter has gone.
Protons
even, which are believed to be the longest ‘living'
particles in physical reality will ‘decay' (‘vanish' from
physical reality and become energy again) after some 80 billion
years….or so.
‘Pre
physical energy' is eternal. Eternal is an expression which
makes no sense to the human mind locked into time and space.
It is
an interesting ‘mind game' to think that the pre physical
energy is ‘God'. Neither that eternal and all knowing energy
nor God can be understood by the human mind.
And we can go a bit further. Many religious writings state
that God's body is a body of light. Now, let us think again.
Light? What is light?
Light
in a ‘human' or material sense is an electromagnetic
radiation, i.e. electrons must move in order to produce ‘visible'
light.
‘Visible' means that there must be an ‘observer'. Someone
who observes the ‘ripples in the ocean of light' and ‘recognises'
them as light.
But ‘before'
matter was created there was no electron and especially
no observer of that electron. Can you see? Something is
not quite right here.
Let
us look at an analogy. Let us think about a pool of water.
The water is absolutely still. Nothing ‘acts' upon
the water. No wind, no movement…..nobody throwing a stone.
We may
have difficulties to ‘see' that water. But when someone
is throwing a stone in the still water ripples or waves appear.
We recognise the water by seeing the waves. ‘Naturally' we
do not immediately think about the fact that water consists
of molecules and that the waves we observe are really the ‘up
and down' movement of these molecules which constitute water.
In a
similar way the ocean of light consists of photons. When
a stones is thrown (an electron moves) the eye of the ‘observer'
can SEE the resulting ripple. The mind can ‘talk' about light.
Hence
I am saying that God's body is a body of light potential,
just as the water is a body of ‘wave
potential'. Unless there is an action taking place no waves
will occur.
Religious
leaders say: ‘God is ALL and ALL is God.' If we
assume that Einstein was right and if we further assume that
the ‘ocean of energy' which matter is made of, is an ocean
of ‘light potential' (the ‘molecules' of which are photons)
then we can see that both, science and religion are speaking
the same language.
And
here is another example of the similarity in thought of
science and religion: science states that ‘in the beginning
there was the ‘Big Bang' and religion states that ‘in the
beginning there was the word'….and I am saying: ‘well, God
must have spoken in a big banging voice'. Ultimately both
descriptions indicate an ‘action' which caused ‘pre physical'
energy to vibrate and ‘create' matter.
I
guess I should make a foot note here: when I speak about ‘pre
physical energy' I may mean the same as ‘virtual photons'
mentioned by quantum physicists. They become ‘quanta' or
kind of ‘visible' photons only when they pop into physical
reality.
That
is the ‘interface' between the ‘material' and the ‘non
material', the ‘created' and the ‘uncreated'. Hence we reach
the limit of the ‘human' mind. As mentioned earlier, a mind
used to ‘observe' the ‘finite' created and material Universe
cannot ‘comprehend' the infinite ‘uncreated'…..and no ‘identifier'
after that because there is nothing to identify…nothing to
give a name to or to hang a shingle on.
Have
you ever tried to solve the riddle of whether the physical
Universe is either finite or infinite? This question can ‘drive
you around the bend'….because there
is no answer to it. The same is true in a way for ‘that
which was before matter', that which some people may call
God.
The Purpose of Life.
Let
us now have a look at some things more ‘important' to
the human mind. Let us ask the ‘Universal' question: ‘why
are we here and what is this ‘life' all about?
The
reason for and purpose of the creation of the Universe
is for us (or God) to ‘play the game of life'…..to smell
the roses, enjoy a nice meal, make love to a beautiful person,
drink the wine….and enjoy the journey.
You
see, God knows all…all that can be known intellectually,
so to speak. All the ‘laws' for a material Universe were
laid down before the material Universe actually came into
being. No man can ever think of something God has not thought
about already….otherwise man would be greater than God.
But
unless God creates a material Universe populated by ‘material'
people God would never KNOW what a rose smells like. I could
try and explain that ‘experience' to you until I am blue
in my face….you still would not KNOW what a rose smells like…unless
you go and smell it yourself!
The
Bible states that we are the ‘hand and feet of God'.
Through us he or she ….or perhaps better ‘IT'….experiences
the material, the created Universe.
One
day….when we experienced everything we wanted to experience
we may fold up the ‘stage' on which we played the game of
life…and perhaps ‘think' of something else to ‘do'. God only
knows.
Sometimes
I say that WE created the Universe. Isn't that a bit presumptuous?
Not so in ‘my mind'. Just think: if matter
consists of energy (in the broadest sense)….then that energy
must have been there ‘before' matter could be created.
The
entire ‘created Universe' in which we have our existence ‘today'
came out of that ‘ocean of light potential'. Hence we all
were a part of that ‘energy'. WE were there at the beginning
and ‘before' the beginning. We were all ONE…..because duality
came into existence only after WE (the ONE) ‘decided' to
create a material Universe of ‘protons and electrons'. The
ONE (God…singularity) decided to become MANY…decided to become
ALL of the Universe. Please allow your mind to ‘contemplate'
this for a while. Perhaps it will make ‘sense' to your mind.
A
holy man in India (Sai Baba) says: ‘you are like the drop
of the ocean…..of the same essence as the ocean but momentarily
separated from it. One day you will become one with the ocean
again'.
I like that example.
When
we understand all this, when we are in this world but not
of this world as Jesus said, when we remain observers without
getting too much emotionally involved in ‘playing
the game of life' our journey will be truly happy and full
of joy.
